hey I have been a member here for quite awhile but never posted so I'll begin by introducing myself, my name is Adam and I have a beautiful kitty named Willow here is our picture: thats an older picture, I look much more mature now haha anyway I thought I would chime in with some hopefully helpful advice, about 5 months ago my kitty became sick with a kidney infection and yes I was terrified and I was convinced that she was going to die but luck was on our side and she was just fine but the vet did recommend that I switch her food because a lot of the store bought stuff can cause chaos in kittys digestive and urinary systems so I switched her to an all organic food and I have to say its worked wonders, Willow is waaay more active, her coat is so soft and beautiful, she hardly gets any hair balls anymore and between us her poop doesn't smell near as bad haha. So that is what I am recommending from my own experience, I know its a little more expensive but the benefits for your kitty are sooo worth it. |

Odd request I'm looking for an lol cat. It's a picture of a cat holding a ferret and the caption is something like, "I'm just washing it, I swear." Does anyone happen to have that picture saved somewhere?
Thanks |

Sigh. At this point, you are all, I am sure, sick of hearing about George and his penchant for toileting all over our house. Last night, I reached my breaking point. A friend was over for dinner, had a little too much too drink, and didn't want to drive home, so he crashed at our place. And in the night... George did his business on him. This is absolutely the breaking point. Even the cat lady at the vet, who was so, so helpful and nice and understanding, was completely baffled, and had never heard of a cat urinating and defecating on a human. This is after cleaning the couch he soiled yesterday with about a gallon of enzymatic cleaner, and introducing Feliway into the home. And instead of furniture, or the floor, he steps it up a notch to humans. I have a five-year-old and a baby on the way, and I cannot have a cat who will gleefully eliminate on them in the night. I have no idea now what I'm going to do. I'm tired of my life revolving around alternately cleaning up cat crap and trying to keep this cat happy so he won't urinate and defecate all over the house. I was going to begin crate training today, but at this point, I hope he doesn't even come back. That's how exhausted and angry I am. I mean, really... ON A PERSON? WTF IS THAT ABOUT? EDIT: When I say I hope he doesn't come back, I do not mean the friend who got peed on. This morning, when letting the dog out to use the bathroom, George ran out. He has take up residence in our garage, for the time being. Current Mood: pissed off |

What is my cat trying to tell me? I'm usually pretty good at reading my cat, Steve's, different moods and such, but lately he has been frustrating me. I've been working a lot of hours (which may be the cause) and I really value my sleep. I'm one of those unfortunate people who need at least 9 hours of sleep to feel normal. Anyway, almost every night Steve will wake me up with his meowing. It's like a questioning meow. I'll call him and he'll jump on the bed, but he never stays long. He jumps back down and continues wandering around, meowing. Then he'll jump on the dressers, knocking things off and meowing loudly. I get up, I pick him up and take him to bed where I pet him and give him lovin's.. but then he just jumps down and does it all over again!
He has plenty of toys. He always has food and water.
What does he want from me?! |

What the? This isn't so much a question as a venting of frustration and confusion. My cat has suddenly become afraid of ceiling fans. There's always been at least one in the house his entire life. A month ago we moved from an apartment with one ceiling fan in the dining room, to a house with a ceiling fan in all three bedrooms AND the living room. We live in Palm Springs, CA and we're easily hitting 110 F every day so every ceiling fan in the house is constantly on. We've lived here for a month and it's never been a problem, nor had he ever shown any fear towards the ceiling fan at the old apartment. This cat covets his mealtime. It's the highlight of his day. And yet he is so bothered by the ceiling fan right now, he'd rather hide under the futon and stare at his dinner than actually get over his issues and eat. I even turned the ceiling fan OFF but he stares at the fan blades like it's some monster about to swoop down and eat him. I'm going to move his food and water to the guest bathroom, but I feel bad because this new monster is lurking in every room of the house and it doesn't even matter if they're turned on or not. I have no idea what his sudden problem is. |

Okay, so here's a question for you. Foot, my first girl (the stray I took in three months ago), has an odd habit. I live in a one bedroom apartment, so there's limited spaces where I can put a litterbox. Hers wound up in the space between the toilet and the sink. It makes it a little crowded when she does her odd little thing. Which is that she will some in and use the box, when I'm on the toilet as well. She'll even make eye contact and 'ask' first, and if I call her over, she'll hop right in and do her thing, even if we're bumping up against each other a little. I can even pet her and she 'murrs' at me when I do. Which, for an animal that supposedly comes from a species that is notorious for liking their bathroom privacy is just downright weird (and yes, she covers it after, too.) So here's my question. Does that mean she 1) trusts me? 2) Is marking her territory? 3) something else? Curiosity wants an explaination! :) Current Mood: curious |

Hi guys, We've just adopted a second cat, mainly as a companion to our first ( here's the new cat, if anyone's interested!). Anyway, as you may have guessed, they've taken an instant dislike to each other! We've got a room designated to her, which she sleeps in, and we've been doing the whole 'swapping scents' thing with blankets etc. We're four days in, but she is absoluteley in awe of our first cat and is quite 'in your face' with him. This causes much hissing and spitting (from him) and much confusion in her. We're taking things a bit more slowly now.. but were wondering if anyone here has; 1) Any handy hints or 2) Any reassuring stories We're a little bit worried that we've ballsed it all up. Sometimes they look like the're tolerating each other, other times it's like he really hates her! |

New Hi everyone! I"m new here, but I love cats and have had at least one cat (and up to three) since the age of three. My first two were Cupcake and Petunia (RIP), and my third one is Carmen. Carmen lives in PA with my mom and dad while I live in GA. I love her too much to drag her down here with me. Lyric and Lyre (brother and sister) are my two current kittens. I adopted them from the animal shelter in May, and they're about 4 months old. There are some photos below the cut. ( Kitties ) |

SORP FILMS NEW FILM TRAILER ONLINE TUESDAY!!! I don't want to over sell it or anything, but the new SORP film is going to kick SO MUCH ASS that it will simply, not be believable.
Next Tuesday will be the official release of the trailer for My Life In Poo. I have actually had to keep this trailer hermetically sealed in a lead vault because it was, no shit, rocking the cocks off of anyone within a 500 foot radius. I kept hearing my neighbors walk into their bathroom to take a leak and then screaming out "HOLY FUCKING SHIT! WHERE THE FUCK DID IT GO!?" because this movie was rocking their cocks CLEAN OFF from several houses over.
I got really tired of having to walk over and go "Yeah, sorry about that, my new film, ya know. Try checking in your pant leg, it might have fallen down in there, sometimes it's under the couch" and then they're all like "Shit, thanks man" and I have to go back home, so finally I just sealed it in the aforementioned box. True story.
So fuck your girlfriend tonight and every night until Tuesday, because when that day rolls around you're going to experience forcible wang ejection because of me motherfuckers. |

Socializing feral cats Hey everyone! I'm new to this community, although I don't know why I didn't find it a long time ago. I've always been a cat lover (had cats since I was 6 years old). I recently moved into my own apartment, and I adopted a cat named Wink. She was a feral cat, rescued by a local animal rescue organization. The people who took her in were able to get her used to being around them. They could pet her and hold her, no problem. They thought that once she was adopted, she would be scared at first, but they didn't think it would be long before she would warm up to her new owner. Well, it has been a week, and she is still hiding under my couch. She will come out when I'm not home to eat and use the litter, but when I'm here, she hides and won't let me near her. Does anyone have any tips on how to get her to trust me? And here's a picture of her with her kittens. They were all adopted before I adopted her. Her eye was like that when they found her, but the vet says it doesn't affect her vision. And that's where the name Wink came from. ( Wink! )Look forward to talking with you all, and thanks for any help! |

Cats with "dirty" habits I have two lovely boys. My youngest Sushi is only a few months old and already has adopted a bad habit. My older boy Possum, who is 2 years, loves to watch people flush the toilet, then drink out of it, and watch people take a shower (perv kitty). Sushi has also adopted the toilet fetish. I do not use harsh chemicals in my toilet because of this and clean with baking soda and occasionally clorox but then will not let them in the bathroom for days afterwards. Sushi has gotten so bad about it that when you sit he will try to put his head between your legs to "watch" (oh so lovely!). He has figured out that the handle has something to do with the flushing motion but cannot figure out how to push it down hard enough and will cry to have someone push it again just so he can play in the flushing water. I try to keep the lid down to prevent cat paw water marks on my seat (guests often ask, whats with the water and cat paws????). But it is hilarious to see how OBSESSED he has become. Do any of your cats have weird obsessions or dirty habits? No post is complete without ( Kitten Pix ) |

Vegas I really want to go to Vegas. I've not been in years and years. I want to see Penn & Teller, Blue Man Group, and hell, even Carrottop. I want to play poker and perhaps a little blackjack and craps just for fun.
Unfortunately, there are two problems with this plan.
My budget doesn't allow for it right now. I have one last debt to pay off, two trips coming up that require air purchases for the whole family, and uncertainty as to how much our Microsoft stock is going to be worth when it vests next month.
And second, I just don't have the time. I might in October or November. But the budget uncertainty will be here through the end of the year unless something kicks sooner (which is possible, even probable, but I've learned not to rely on such things).
But this doesn't change the fact that I still really want a 4-day or 5-day vacation in Vegas. |

George Toileting On Stuff... The Saga Continues... Okay, so, we're scooping the boxes every day. And now, the inappropriate elimination is occurring every other day, as opposed to every day. Some improvement, yes? Except for the part where he's doing it on my couch, while we're sleeping. Cleaning cat poop out of tweed upholstered couch =/= easy.
It's clearly a behavior issue at this point. He does this in the night, while we are asleep, then avoids us all day, preferring to sit in a cubbyhole and glower at all who pass. At night, before we go to bed, he's affectionate, in an "I'm sorry" kind of way.
The vet has recommended we confine him to a room or a crate at night, with a litter box, but I'm afraid he'll just get out and go all over everything once he's out. Has anyone else had success with re-training a cat this way? Any tips or tricks.
We're thinking of getting the Feliway diffuser (I am LOATHE to spend that kind of money on something), but I'm unsure of where I should put it. Should I put it in the room where he's going, or the room where I want him to go?
Also, any suggestions on getting cat pee out of throw pillows that have been POSITIVELY SATURATED with urine? They're the only back cushions my couch has, and they don't have zip off covers. I've tried soaking them in plain water, then adding vinegar and running them on delicate through the washer, then reshaping them and drying them in the sun, but the smell still lingers.
Furthermore, any suggestions on getting urine out of cushions with zip-off covers, when the foam inside has been saturated? I can easily launder the covers, but the foam is another problem all together. |

Sick kitties update SOooooo my lil Sam and Stella kittens with Giardia- I picked them both up on Wednesday and brought them home.. Sam, the one who was incredibly ill, is doing Fantastic..he has gained a few ounces and now weighs a whopping 1lb10 oz lol..Playing and bright eyes, running around, eating and using the kitty litter with firm stools. Question : The only thing this cat will eat is baked chicken and cottage cheese!!!! Cant get him to eat any wet.dry cat food or KMR!!! During his stay at the vet they fed him chicken and now im in for it- he likes my organic chicken to boot! lol Any other ideas on what to feed him so he gets in some vitamins etc?? Stella, on the other hand, is a poor lil mess. The nite I brought her home she went downhill fast. Eyes were pouring liquid, breathing sounding as if her nose was stuffy, not eating etc. that 3rd eyelid or i dont know what its called, the thing in the corner of their eyes, was covering the majority of her eyeball.... took her back to the vet next morning and her temp was 105.5!!!!!!!! Needless to say, she will be staying there til at least Monday. These poor kittens!!!!! She deserves a much needed break and some good health!! *my cue to leave as i hear my 2 yr old flushing the toilet!* |

Trailer Cat Up For Adoption Some of you may remember the posts I made last month about the abandoned kitten I found in our trailer park ( post 1 and post 2). She has been doing really well at her foster home and in a two weeks or so she will be ready for adoption! Her foster mama (who also fostered our two babies) sent me this email yesterday: Just wanted to let ya know that October (Toby for short) is doing fabulous. She is sitting on my lap at work as I type this email to you. She's a little skittish around strangers, but warms up fast. Other than that-there are no signs left that she was ever a feral cat. I love her so much. If I wasnt already full-I'd keep her. Of course I said that about your boys too! haha She does have a mean streak, but I attribute that to the fact that she's a calico. She will definately need a home with someone who wants a BIG personality. Anyway...She will be getting spayed in about 2 weeks and I will then begin searching for her forever home. Please pass the word and let me know if you know of anyone that would be interested. I included some pics at about 6 weeks old.....I'll put some pictures of October (which I think is a much better name than "Trailer Cat" LOL) behind a cut below. If anyone is in the Austin, Tx area (or knows of someone who is) and is looking for a kitten with a lot of Cattitude, let me know and I can give you my email address and the foster mom's email address. Otherwise, yay for happy kitten stories! ( October the Trailer Park Kitten )If my boyfriend would let me and if we could get another cat onto our lease I would totally adopt her to be a little sister to Genghis and Fenix. Unfortunately, that's not an option. *sigh* Current Mood: happy |

OMFG I am devastated you have no idea it happened soooooooo fast! like within less than 2 hours!:( He was on sofa lying around and purring as always and i was brushing him. Then he coughed as if he had a hairball and he got down. Then i went to go in shower and im just getting undressed when mam shouts me. She was like "he cant walk his back legs have gone" :(so i start panicking run down stairs and he was lying there outside trying to stand up and then he started to cry :(
So i picked him up and ran him inside. Then he started to pant prob cause he was stressed and could not breath so well:( so we ran the vet and they said bring him right down. In the car he got so scared he just poohed all over poor mother. The vet put him straight on oxygen and put him in another room and she examined him. Said that she thought he had had a blood clot in his lungs that went to his legs and it caused him to loose all sensation. Then she goes "unfortunately" and at that point i died i knew what she was gonna say. :(So yeah he has gone all in under 2 hours. My head is all over the place i cant get around how he was ok one min and gone the next He was in our lives for 2 years and he brought so much happiness! =[

About tortoise shell cats... ? I have a female tortie who is about a year and a half old, my family ended up with her when we took in a pregnant stray. She was supposed to get adopted out over a year ago with the rest of her siblings but she has quite the attitude and the woman who (legally) owns her and is running the adoption agency has seemingly given up on Bunny(the cat's name.) altogether! (She won't answer our calls half the time and/or can never show Bunny that week, I know she's busy but it seems a little ridiculous.) What I've heard from her and many of my friends who own/did own torties is that they *ALL* have some kind of horrible attribute or another, (one of my friends has one that throws up all the time and another had one who would poop everywhere.) Bunny herself, pees everywhere. She knows very well how to use the litter box, she just.. doesn't! She's been to the vet and is perfectly healthy, the only thing we can figure out is that this happens to be her horrible trait. My parents are very angry and my dad keeps threatening to take her to the pound. So, I really need help, if you have a tortie or did or something is there anyway you've found to stop them from acting this way? What can I do? I love her to death but I'm tired of cleaning up pee and I really don't want to see anything bad happen to her. Help? X-posted to petcare. EDIT: Thank you guys very very much. You've been really helpful! We were able to get a hold of the woman who runs the adoptions, she suspects Bunny has a bladder infection and so sometime in the next week or so Bunny will go and get tested. If it turns out she's just fine and healthy then I'll start talking to my parents about some of the things you guys suggested and hopefully we'll be able to resolve this. ^^; Current Mood: worried |
